Tilapia is a fish of African origin, introduced in Brazil about 40 years ago. The Gift species, the English abbreviation for Genetic Improvement of Farmed Tilapia, is the subject of several researches at the Fisheries Institute, linked to the Department of Agriculture of São Paulo.
Fábio Sussel, a doctoral student at the University of São Paulo, talks about the three production systems: "In pitted nurseries, with a water renewal of 10% a day, a kilo per square meter is ideal.For tanks, in large reservoirs, up to 30 kilos per cubic meter, while in intensive systems, from 20 to 30 kg / m³ ".
The latter method has a biofilter for water treatment. Basically, explains Sussel, the tank set removes impurities and returns high quality water to the tank.
